The Atwell Youth Awards, now in its 18th year is for young artists of high-school age, ie year 7 to year 12 and is an opportunity for them to exhibit work in the Atwell Gallery in Alfred Cove. We accept entries from individuals or from schools. For those of you that have entered before, we’d love to see you again, to others, we'd love to meet you.
We aim to display a fabulous variety of work and our gallery always looks amazing — the annual AYA exhibition is one of the highlights of our year. Please note that as Atwell Gallery is fairly small we do like to encourage a wide variety of media some 2d, and some 3d. We are happy to hang suitable artworks from the ceiling.
The AYA now has it's own facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/atwellyouthawards/

Please see attached Entry Form and School Control sheet.
The idea is that individual students fill out an entry form. Teachers then check and consolidate their students’ entries onto a control sheet. Please photocopy the details on the entry form to use as a label for the actual artwork when it is delivered. We also encourage students to discuss their work in an artist statement.

There is no overall theme but we do have a couple of special challenges each year. For several years we have had a special challenge to use recycled materials. For 2020 we are reviewing the nature of this prize - we are broadening the topic to be more about sustainable living and care of our planet/environment. We are not being prescriptive about this but there will be a prize. Of course, we still welcome the innovative use of recycled materials.
We have fun thinking up our annual challenge; for 2020 the Special Theme is “The Night Sky” which has forever been a subject of fascination to peoples of all cultures and all age groups. We invite teachers to do a project on the topic either literally or let your imagination run wild. Please see attached flyer.
